With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’m sure many of you have been googling “Romantic Restaurants in Singapore” for ideas. What I can tell you is…

  •  Most of these recommended restaurants will be packed to the brim; because everybody will end up with the same search results and you’ll all end up booking the same places
  • Any ambience you are hoping to get will dissipate in the crowded restaurant. And you may dine in guilt as you watch the line of hungry couples grow to infinity.
  • Here’s one question: so dinner’s over, now what? No plans? Then read on

With these points in mind, I’ve compiled a list of 8 affordable restaurants located at romantic locations in Singapore. So after dinner, you can go for a quiet walk or drop by a quiet café nearby for dessert with your date. With great food, great ambience and great prices guaranteed, you can’t find a better list this Valentine’s.

Whether it’s for brunch or dinner, Halia provides an unpretentious ambience for your date. And after your meal, you can take a walk around and soak up in beauty of the Garden.

Valentine Date Idea: SBC at daytime provides a great setting to create your own photo lookbook with all the natural fauna and foliage! Don on matching (or same-same-but-different) outfits and have fun with photography.

At night, SBC provides a tranquillity and peace away from the urban buzz. So take a stroll around the Garden and enjoy each other’s company.

2. Culina Bistro @ Dempsey Hill

Block 8 Dempsey Road, #01-13 Tanglin Village| Tel: +65 6474 7338

Housing several other romantic restaurants, Dempsey Hill already has the Valentine’s vibe set in place amidst its lush greenery.

Culina is a gourmet boutique (atas grocery store) offering fresh and exquisite produce and wine from around the world.

Whilst the bistro is conceptualised to offer cuisine made with these ingredients. Hence, everything you order from the bistro is made from the fresh ingredients provided at the gourmet boutique.

Price: Appetizers starts from $15, entrée starts from $29 for pasta and $32 for poultry/ fish. If you are going for red meat, you’ll be able to select and purchase your preferred meat and cut at the boutique; prices subject to your selection with an additional $15 for food-prep fee.

Valentine Date Idea: Plan a cook-out for your next date and explore the boutique to pick out ingredients or simply browse and be wow-ed by the selection of produce.

It’s not everyday that you get to shop-and-dine literally. After that, head over to Ben and Jerry’s for dessert and enjoy the live band.

3. Verandah @ Gardens By The Bay

Visitor Centre, 18 Marina Gardens Drive, Gardens by the Bay|Tel: 6636 1360

“Contemplate nature and your beloved amongst the blooms at Singapore’s state-of-the-art Gardens by the Bay. For inexpensive romance, visiting the outdoor gardens is free, while entrance to the conservatories costs between SGD$8 and $28.”- TheHoliday.com

Recommended as one of the romantic places in Singapore, bring your date for a day at Gardens by the Bay before heading for dinner at Verandah, which serves contemporary Asian cuisine.

Price: Enjoy truffle fries and other starters from $7.90, and move on to the Asian-fusion inspired main courses that are mostly below $20; unless you order more sophisticated meat dishes like the “Black Angus” Ribeye Steak with Mushroom Sauce ($32.60)
Valentine Date Idea: Almost like dating at Botanic Gardens, take a stroll and take in the beautiful sight at Gardens by The Bay.

There is much to see even at night, with the gardens closing only at 2am every night. Do check out their calendar of events for other ongoing exhibitions too.

4. The Connoisseur Concerto (TCC) @ Marina Keppel Bay

#02-02A, Marina at Keppel Bay, 2 Keppel Bay Vista | Tel: 6276 1223

“Located at the southern part of Singapore, Keppel Island provides a great escape from the urban noise. You can expect to dine while enjoying the nice sea views, with a sense of exclusivity.”- Shu Ling, Yelp.com

Marina Keppel Bay is easily one of the most romantic spots in Singapore. It offers a fantastic view of the marina over serene waters and it is relatively quiet.

I recommended TCC because it is located on the 2nd floor, so you’ll be able to take in the full aerial view of the marina area while dining.

Even at an affordable price, TCC serves up quality and delectable dishes that will not lose out to those in the other eateries.

Last but not least, I’m almost confident that MOST Singaporeans will think that TCC is readily available in town, so they will not want to dine at a franchise restaurant after travelling all the way to Keppel Bay.

Hence most probably you’ll be able to dine in a less crowded restaurant.

Price: If you frequent TCC, you’ll know that you’ll be able to get appetizers from $13 and mains from $24. Average spending per person is about $35++.

Valentine Date Idea: If you’re feeling adventurous, you can both start your day at Labrador Park for a historical walk, down to the nature & coastal walk, before crossing the bridge to Keppel Bay. There’s even a huge field there where you can picnic too.

5. Horizon Bistronomy @ Punggol Settlement

3 Punggol Point Road, Punggol Settlement | Tel: 6702 6383

“The Punggol Settlement sits directly at Punggol Promenade. Just imagine a waterfront dining experience similar to Kallang Wave or ECP, but with more privacy and serenity.”- Malcolmsunny.com

Like the review mentioned, Punggol Settlement is a great place for a quiet evening dining with your date. And nothing sounds sexier and sophisticated than French cuisine. Horizon Bistronomy offers alfresco sitting so you’ll be able to soak in the ambience and enjoy the view of the waterfront while dining.

Price: I couldn’t find their ala crate menu but based on their Facebook posts and other foodie reviews, it seemed their menu is definitely value for money. They were offering a 3-course countdown menu for only $58++. So my guess is their Valentine’s menu should be around that price range. The last I saw was they are developing a new menu so do check out their Facebook page for updates!

Valentine Date Idea: Start your day by renting a bicycle at Punggol Waterfront and explore the Punggol area. There’s a Gallop Stable and Punggol Ranch Resort located next to Punggol Settlement too where you try riding a horse and plan a staycation at the stable chalets; definitely something new for a date.

6. Da Paolo Bistro Bar @ Rochester Park

3 Rochester Drive, Rochester Park | Tel: 6774 5537

“Fantastic and romantic ambience; highly-quality and healthy authentic italian cuisine; value for money and easily accessible.”- jeraldinephneah.me

When you think of romantic dining locations, Rochester Park is another one that tops the list. And if you search Da Paolo Bistro Bar, you’ll be wow-ed by the stylish yet laid-back and dreamy décor of the restaurant; kind of one that reminds you of a pop-up bistro in the outskirts of a forest in Florence.

Price: Brunch breakfast selection ranges from $26-34, with mains from $21. For regular ala crate menu, do refer to their facebook page and request for the pricings. My guess is it’s still fairly affordable judging from all the reviews I’ve gone through.

Valentine Date Idea: Explore Rochester Park and settle at one of the bars for post-dinner drinks with a good o’ heart-to-heart talk.

7. Trapizza @ Sentosa

101 Siloso Road, Sentosa, Siloso Beach | Tel: 6376 2662

“A casual, pizzeria overlooking the sea, this is for the beach-loving couples. The open air layout lets you enjoy the cool sea breeze while dining on a selection of wood-fired thin crust pizza and pastas. Go for a stroll on the beach after dinner like in the movies too!”- Sethlui.com

If the both of you love the idea of just chilling, listening to the lapping waves and enjoying the sea breeze over dinner, try this casual Italian eatery recommended by local food blogger Seth Lui. Indulge in wood-fire pizzas and a selection of pastas, snacks and dessert. The natural ambience at the beach will set the mood just right.

Price: Online reviews set the average spending to about $26 per person for pasta and pizzas. However, drinks do get pricier at Trapizza, as with other beach bar/restaurants in Sentosa.

Valentine Date Idea: Spend the day at the beach sunbathing and soak up in the sun before heading for dinner. After that, kick off those flip-flops and stroll down the beach. And if you manage to find a dimmer and quieter part of the beach, you will even be able sit at the beach and enjoy the night sky.

8. The Wine Company @ Sentosa Boardwalk

6 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Broadwalk | Tel: 6376 9029

“As the evening cools, be enamoured with the plush seating and stain glass that gives you a feeling that you are alone in the world somewhere with your loved one. It’s actually a perfect place for a romantic dinner getaway in Singapore without blowing your budget, away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Vivocity.”- thegaldines

Linking Vivocity to the Sentosa Island, the Sentosa Boardwalk is a sight to behold as it lights up at night. Since most people will rather take the bus or the monorail to-and-fro Sentosa, the boardwalk is usually quiet, offering privacy for couples to hang out. And if you’re there for an early dinner at The Wine Company, you’ll get to see the sunset as you dine.

Price: Besides offering a large selection of wine, The Wine Company offers an extensive ala crate menu consisting of both Asian-fusion and western fare. Prices start from $7.20 for appetizers, and $8.80 for main courses. Check out the menu here

Valentine Date Idea: Since it is located near Sentosa, the both of you could either spend a day at the beach. Or you could visit the different attractions the island has to offer. After dinner, the two of you can stroll along the boardwalk.

—————–

At the end of the day, I would say it doesn’t matter where you dine, even though it does give you some points for taking the effort to find and make a reservation at a restaurant.

The thing that matters more for this day is that you two celebrate your love in each other’s company and create memories.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
