5 Good Reasons You Need To Start A Part-Time Business

“Do not wait until the conditions are perfect to begin.
Beginning makes the conditions perfect.”

We all have that friend who wants to start a business. If you don’t have one, then you’re probably that friend. And before you start thinking how flatteringly clichéd that sentence sounds, hold on and read what I have to say next…

Deep inside, you know you want to, but have no idea what to do, and want something to show you the way, and justify your dreams.

Especially in Singapore where you see new businesses pop up everywhere, in particular the trending businesses such as hipster cafes, trendy localised bars, and all that fancy fluff. And here are five reasons you would want to start your own business.

1. Fuel your creativity and passion

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

Face it. Most of the small businesses up and running are hipster haunts. Despite how common it is, people love it. That tres chic interior and zen menus has the owner’s creativity and passion dripping al over it. The more outlier cafes are ones that bring in local kopitiam flavours to it, a bit off-track than their modern counterparts. Walk in and you can feel the individual aura the owners want to convey according to their wills, be it retro or modern.

And this is what you want when materialising your own business. You want to be able to convey a representation of your craft. You want to turn your self into your greatest passion. You want to tell everyone about this identity you have, and what better way than sending your business online? After all, there are millions of people out there waiting for you to show what you’ve got.

2. Enjoy more fulfilling hours

“You only live once, But if you work it right, once is enough.”

When you work for someone, you are delivering someone else’s dream, you are fulfilling what someone else want. Unless you chance upon an employer whose dreams are the same as yours? If so, good for you! You are that 0.001%! However, if you are part of the 99.999%, do not fret, starting your own business is a choice only YOU can make to charge and take hold of YOUR life.

While working on your beloved business, you will start to experience a different way of viewing the world. Keeping the mind positive, you will realise that life is a lot about other experiences and not about work and money. In fact, not every business-owner chase money like a driven slave. Some of us just want to live life as it is meant to. Creating wealth by fulfilling health and happiness.

3. To be inspired, and be inspiring

“To be inspired is great, to inspire is incredible.”

Our daily lives can get boring and stale if we kept doing the same thing over and over without changing our landscape. And it’s pretty hard to find a space for ourselves with all the hectic schedules we find ourselves swamped in. There are e-mails to reply, deadlines to keep. And the only way to keep yourself inspired is to drift away in your facebook feed.

Now, once you have your own business, people will start looking to you for inspiration. They will want to hear about how you started out, how you made it. And because you are in charge of your own time, you can find a time and space to be inspired too. Isn’t that just amazing?

4. Avoid the competitive Job market

“Your dream job does not exist. You must create it.”

On average, the amount of time it takes for a university graduate to find a job is about 6 months. That’s a lot of time! So what do most of them do? They either go on holiday, find a part-time job, or simply do nothing and relax at home. The problem is that most of them end up having to part with a lot of money even before they begin their life as a working adult.

Now, imagine using 6 months to build up a business that will last you for life. Instead of waiting for a job to fall at your feet, you take action and start your own business. Can you even think how powerful that could be?

5. To make more money of course

This is quite obvious especially if you want to make extra income while preparing to quit your job. My personal belief when it comes to money is that once you have something valuable going, the money will naturally come. However, if you are slightly older, you may need assurance that you can make something work and quit your job.
