Here’s 5 Important Reasons Why You Should Take Advantage of SkillsFuture Credit

As you know, the government rolled out an initiative earlier this year called SkillsFuture.

It is to encourage continuous learning and development of skills. This is because the government knows that the job climate in Singapore (and around the world, actually) isn’t what it used to be.

And like it or not, we should also realize that the only way we can move forward in life is to keep upgrading ourselves.

The government has provided us with this platform, so here’s 5 important reasons why we should take advantage of it.

Reason #1: Job Insecurity

Gone are the days when we have secured employment in one single place. In the last decade, how often have we heard of reputable companies letting go of their employees due to economic downturn?

The number of people losing their jobs is staggering. Therefore, it’s now important, more than ever, to keep constantly learning new skills so that in the unlikely event we lose our jobs, we are still able to find work even in a different industry.

Reason #2: Expect To Have Multiple Jobs

The second reason is related to the first.

In fact, this is a phenomenon that will affect the Generation X and Millennials (those born between 1970s to 2000s) more, as they will form the groups of people who will still be actively employed for the next few decades.

SkillsFuture is a great platform for those of us belonging to the affected generations for it allows us to step up our game, so to speak.

Reason #3: Rapidly Changing Technology And Increasing Knowledge

This is another important reason why you should take advantage of SkillsFuture. Just look at 10 years ago. Back then, blogging was just for fun and sort of an online diary. Now, blogging has become a multi-billion dollar industry.

Companies who have online presence know the importance of reaching out to their target market and one of the ways to do so is through blogging. The job market is also evolving rapidly, with more people becoming freelancers.

Even if you’re not into freelancing, you cannot deny that a lot of job scopes are not as straightforward as it used to be.

In the marketing industry, it used to be about reaching out to audiences through traditional mediums such as television, radio, newspaper and etc.

Now, every marketer needs to know how to use social media to their advantage as well. So in order to stay relevant, you need to continue learning.

Reason #4: Develop Multiple Skill Sets

This is an extension of the third reason. Having multiple skill sets will only serve to increase your appeal to potential employers more.

For example, if you’re good at ad-hoc admin duties and you’re a friendly person, and at the same time you’ve picked up Japanese or Italian language, you would definitely stand out more to hotels looking for reception officers.

Reason #5: Free Money!

If all the above reasons fail to convince you, then hopefully this one will. Well, technically, it’s taxpayers money but hey, since you might be reluctant to fork out money to improve yourself, the government makes it easier for you!

So all you need to do is sign in to your account, go look for the course you’re really interested in and sign up!

P/s: If you really want to make the most of your SkillsFuture credit, sign up for alternative online courses from Udemy instead of attending local classes.
