The following article is extracted from the book “90 Minute Millionaire: Total Life Makeover” which is written by world renowned business growth expert Kane Minkus.
It takes 30 days for a person to adapt to a new habit which is exactly why I challenge you to try this routine for 30 days. It will change the trajectory of your life and I want you to experience for yourself all the benefits it can offer.
Your morning sets the entire context of your day so it is fundamentally important to start it well. For many of us this may be simple logic. By starting each and every day powerfully you will start to see better results throughout your entire life.
You Snooze, You Lose.
The First Thing to start your morning routine is simple. Actually get up! Never ever hit the snooze button. It is important to set the time that you are actually going to wake up. Your alarm goes off and boom you’re up! This will help you to immediately set the tone for the rest of your day.
Let The Light Shine In
Once you are awake, the next thing that you want to do is to let as much sunlight and fresh air into your world as possible. Open up all the blinds and some windows. I personally don’t have blinds because I like to be woken up by natural light.
Natural light is fundamental to our health as our bodies use sunlight to synthesize adequate amounts of vitamin D. This keeps our bones strong and healthy as well as supporting our immune system. It has been scientifically proven that people who are underexposed to natural light are more likely to suffer from depression. Studies conducted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness in the US show that some people experience a serious mood change during the winter months, when there is less natural sunlight. This condition is ironically called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Serotonin is one of your body’s happy hormones and increases when you’re exposed to bright light. This is a major reason why moods tend to be more elevated during the summer.
One of the most fundamental aspects of having a great start to your day is to get your body moving as quickly as possible. Have you ever had one of those mornings where you have dragged yourself out of bed, finding it almost impossible for your eyelids to stay open, fumbled your way through having a shower and getting ready, made it to your car and yet you’re STILL not fully awake!? This simple and somewhat strange step is designed to combat that.
As soon as you are out of bed do about a minute and a half of light on the spot jumps. The movement of your muscles stimulates your lymph nodes and also helps to program your brain that you’re awake.
While you are sleeping, although you are in a rested state, your body is still functioning and therefore is still using water. By the morning, your body has been depleted of its required water levels, making it absolutely vital to rehydrate.
After completing step three drink about a litre (1000 ml) of water to replenish your body. Most people do not drink enough water in the morning and this sets the context for their entire day. If you are dehydrated your brain doesn’t function well, making it extremely difficult to perform and to shift any negative thoughts that you might be having.
Meditation is an extremely powerful tool and if done correctly, can shut down the normal flow of your conscious inner thoughts. It has been linked to numerous physiological and psychological benefits including increased cell functioning, higher levels of intelligence and creativity, improved quality of your relationships and even reversing the aging process!
For those of you that haven’t meditated before, meditation is a natural state and in some instances can facilitate brainwave activity similar to that of being asleep. Many people may go to a place that they find extremely peaceful (like the beach) and think that it is their surroundings that is creating this sense of peace. Practicing the art of meditation will teach you that this peace actually resonates from inside of you. The tranquility of the surroundings is simply enabling you to tap into that inner peace. Ultimately it is a vital tool to keep you centered, stress free and give you clarity in your thoughts.
You want the first thing that you put into your body to be healthy. You ideally want it to be alkalizing. Now is not the time to slam down a G&T or shot of Vodka. Unless you are Charlie Sheen, this probably won’t get you off to the flying start your body deserves.
Generally speaking many people eat things that they wouldn’t even consider feeding to their pets. Food is fuel for your body to do all the things that you want it to do throughout the day and as such you want to be giving your body quality fuel. (You can find the recipe for Super Smoothie below.)
Exercise is essential for our health & wellbeing. Every day you should be getting at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise. Exercise has a number of medical benefits including working to help prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, type II diabetes and even some cancers.
Working out literally works to make us feel happier as it increases the release of hormones such as serotonin and endorphins into the system. It is quite simply essential to leading a healthy happy lifestyle.
The aim during this step is to get your heart pumping. Try to incorporate as much outdoors activity as you possibly can and choose a work out type that is suitable for you. I personally love to surf so I try to do it absolutely every day. If I’m not at home I will generally go for a swim but you can choose whatever works best for you.
