Do I Need Home Insurance On Top Of HDB Fire Insurance?

HDB’s compulsory fire insurance covers the building, not your contents, renovation or liability. Pick your home and what matters to you to see which plans say they meet it.

What These Columns Mean
Priorities Met
How many of the priorities you picked the insurer’s own product page or policy wording says the plan meets for your type of home. A benefit the insurer does not state counts as not met. Starting premiums are shown where printed, but not ranked.

How This Comparison Works

HDB’s compulsory fire insurance, bought from HDB’s appointed insurer by owners with an HDB loan, covers the building structure and the fixtures HDB provided. HDB’s page says it does not cover home contents such as furniture, renovations and personal belongings, and does not list personal liability. Home insurance from an insurer of your choice is optional and covers those. You pick your home type and the priorities that matter to you. For each plan we check the insurer’s own product page and policy wording, read on 28 Oct 2026, for whether it states that benefit for your home type: renovation cover, personal liability of S$1 million or more, flood cover, alternative accommodation, burglary cover, water damage cover and a plan for tenants. Plans that meet more of your priorities are listed first; plans that meet the same number are ordered by how many of the other benefits they also state. A benefit the insurer does not state counts as not met and is marked as not stated. Nearly every plan lists contents cover, so it is not a choice here. This sorts by features only: it is not a quality rating or a price comparison. Starting premiums are the lowest figure each insurer prints on its own page, for different plans and sums insured, and some pages showed promotions, so they are shown and not ranked.

Only products we checked in the last 30 days can rank. Expired offers are left out. Paid links never change the order. We compare a selection of products, not every product on the market.

General information for comparison, not advice. Check the policy wording and get a quote on the insurer’s site before you buy. Limits and excess depend on the plan and your sum insured, and several benefits stop if the home is empty for more than 60 days. Building cover from these plans is a top-up to HDB’s or your MCST’s fire insurance. Starting premiums are what each insurer printed on 28 Oct 2026 and can change.
